Our Engineering team is seeking an Intermediate Engineering Design Professional to provide support to Project Managers in our Engineering group. Projects will vary from individual lot severances to site plan developments, municipal engineering projects and larger scale plans of subdivision.

Responsibilities

Working under the supervision of an Engineering Project Manager, the primary responsibility will be to assist the engineering project manager in all aspects of project delivery, particularly focused on completion of the final design drawings, as follows

  • Complete final engineering drawings for subdivisions, site plans and severances, for review by the engineering project manager and for submission to approval authorities
  • Complete detailed design calculations for servicing and grading plans under the direction of the engineering project manager including: sewer sizing, road profile design, lot and site grading, stormwater calculations for attenuation and conveyance, layout of the SWM facilities, cut/fill analysis from existing to proposed surfaces, watermain sizing calculations, fire-flow assessments and waster – water generation assessments

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of experience working in the field of municipal land development
  • Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Extensive knowledge of municipal design standards for site-plan and subdivision developments
  • Understanding the approvals framework for municipal land development projects
  • Familiarity with stormwater management projects such as MIDUSS, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS
  • Solid understanding of civil engineering design concepts and principles
  • Ability to prioritiae multiple projects and tasks on once in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Processing field data and computer-generated survey information
  • Perform calculations, analysis and computation of measurements on field survey data
  • Preparing pre-engineering, topographic, and cadastral plans (including SRPRs, Reference Plans, Subdivision and Condominium Plans and Crown Land Plans)

Qualifications

  • College diploma for Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics Technology or equivalent experience

We are currently looking for a full time Intermediate Land Use Planner to join our team in our Hamilton office.  This is a permanent full-time position to begin as soon as the successful candidate is found.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in Urban and Regional Planning or planning related degree is required
  • Full Membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is preferred; eligibility for full membership with OPPI within 1 year is required at a minimum
  • Minimum 3-5 years of responsible, relevant experience in land use planning and development, either in the private sector or at the municipal level
  • Strong written communication and research skills are minimum requirements to assist in the preparation of Planning Justification Reports, assist in the preparation for Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) hearings with senior planners, and the preparation and submission of various application packages and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to liaison with and build Client relations is required
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and other design applications is an asset
  • Ability to creatively handle a variety of complex issues having physical, economic, environmental and social dimensions
  • Time management, team development, analytical thinking and research skills
  • Class “G” driver’s license is required

EXPERIENCE

  • Working knowledge of the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, Growth Plan, Niagara Escarpment Plan, Greenbelt Plan, municipal Official Plans and Zoning or Development Permit By-Laws is required
  • Previous experience preparing Planning Act applications for Consent, Minor Variance, Zoning By-Law Amendments (Rezoning), Official Plan Amendments, Plan of Subdivision/Condominium and Site Plan Control is required
  • Experience with conducting Public Information Consultation (PIC), or presentations to Committee of Adjustment or municipal city council in support of Planning Act applications would be considered an asset
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills as well as analysis and negotiation skills are desirable. Liaising with other professionals, local municipalities, and government agencies concerning planning and development submissions will be a regular occurrence.
  • Must have prior experience with Planning Justification Reports. Please submit a past Planning Justification Report that you have authored, with your resume.
